Maps - introduction

The State map series consists of map sheets showing seamlessly the territory of the Czech Republic, processed according to common standards, and published by the State Authority in public interest. State Map Series, obligatory for the territory of the Czech Republic, are specified by Government Provision No. 430/2006 Sb. The series includes base state map series which contains basic, generally useable content, and thematic state map series with additional thematic phenomena on the background state map series.

The Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre is the publisher of base state map series, which include cadastre maps, 1:5000 State maps, base maps of the Czech Republic at scales of 1:10 000, 1:25 000, 1:50 000, 1:100 000 and 1:200 000, 1:500 000 map of the Czech Republic, as well as several thematic state map series.

A cadastral map is a large-scale map which shows boundaries of lots, perimeters of building structures and waters, boundaries of cadastre units, map lettering and other items within the scope ofDecree No. 357/2013 Sb. and its Appendix, for the needs of management of the Cadastre of real estate of the Czech Republic . Cadastral maps are currently maintained in digital form for approx. 97,83% of the Czech Republic s territory at a scale 1:1.000 and in analogue form at several scales and map sheets layout for the remaining area. In areas where maps are maintained in analogue form, they are scanned regularly and are available in raster format. Cadastral maps in digital form are a pivotal map base used in information systems and applications related to land. Completing the digital vector cadastral map coverage of the Czech Republic is one of the most significant tasks of the ČÚZK domain.

State map at the scale of 1:5,000 is a large-scale map containing planimetry, altimetry and map lettering. Cadastral maps are the foremost source of its planimetry; altimetry is formed by elevation contour lines taken from the Base map of the Czech Republic at 1:100 000 or ZABAGED®. It is available for the entire territory of the Czech Republic, partly in vector and partly in raster form. It is used widely as a base for development and planning.

Medium-scale base maps are, next to cadastal maps, the most important part of the state map series. The set of medium-scale base maps consists of Base maps of the Czech Republic at scales of 1:10,000, 1:25,000, 1:50,000, 1:100,000 and 1:200,000 . Base maps at medium scales are of topographic character , they contain planimetry, altimetry, and map lettering. They are processed in a uniform layout of map sheets specifically designed for the purpose of their compilation considering optimal coverage of the territory by map sheets. Individual map sheets are trapeze-shaped and oriented approximately in geographic directions. Base maps at scales from 1:10 000 to 1:100,000 are complete for the entire territory of the Czech Republic using digital technologies and based on data from ZABAGED® and Geonames and their update is ongoing. Medium-scale base maps in digital form, processed to common standards for the entire territory of the Czech Republic, are convenient for use in Geographic Information Systems, map portals and web applications as overview maps.

Map of the Czech Republic at the scale of 1:500 000 is a general geographic map of small scale . It shows the entire territory of the Czech Republic on a single map sheet, processed using digital technology. It is used, among others, as a navigation layer in Geoportal CUZK and other departmental web applications.

Thematic state map series published by the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre are available only in printed form .

Compilation and update of the state map series, published by the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre, are executed by the Land Survey Office with the exception of cadastral maps which are produced by cadastral offices.
